Die Gittarenpop-Helden THE FRANK AND WALTERS begannen Anfang der 90er ihre Musikkarriere in Cork (Irland). Mit ihren Liedern "After All", "Fashion Crisis Hits New York" oder "This Is Not A Song" feierten sie in der damaligen Britpop-Szene einige Erfolge. Seit der Gründung veröffentlichten sie 4 Alben, einige EPs und ein Best Of-Album. Jetzt ist ihr neues Album "Souvenirs" erschienen, eine Zusammenstellung von seltenen Stücken, B-Seiten und Remixen.

Die Compilation wurde im Oktober letzten Jahres in Irland veröffentlicht und erscheint nun auch in Deutschland über Fifa Records. Auch wenn ich im Besitz aller THE FRANK AND WALTERS Alben und einiger Singles bin, befinden sich dennoch einige Stücke auf dem Album, die ich bis dato noch nicht kannte. Diese gefallen mir alle ausnahmslos sehr gut.
Einige der B-Seiten sind wirklich großartig, z.B. "Pathways", "An Elegant Chaos" oder "Restraint" und es ist schön sie nun alle auf einer Platte zu haben. Von älteren Songs wie "New York", "Paradise" und "Take Me Trough This Life" sind Remixe enthalten, die stellenweise besser als die Original-Songs sind.
Jeder, der nicht im Besitz aller THE FRANK AND WALTERS Singles ist, sollte sich dieses Album zulegen. Ein weiterer Grund ist die tolle Cover-Version des THE SMITHS Songs "Cemetary Gates", die sich nur auf dem seltenen Sampler "The Smiths Is Dead" befindet. Desweiteren befinden sich die Videos zu den Hits "After All" und "Indian Ocean" auf der Doppel-CD und ein seltener MY BLOODY VALENTINE-Remix von "Take Me Through This Life".
Mit dem Kauf der CD erhält man übrigens einen speziellen Code, der es einem ermöglicht eine weitere CD auf der THE FRANK AND WALTERS Webseite herunterzuladen. Alles in allem eine sehr empfehlenswerte Zusammenstellung. Ich habe zumindest einige schöne Stunden mit dem Hören des Albums verbracht.

THE FRANK AND WALTERS began their career in the early 90s in Cork (Ireland).They get known for their songs “After All“, “Fashion Crisis Hits New York“ and “This Is Not A Song“. Since their formation they have published 4 albums, a few Eps and a Best- Of album. Now their new album "Souvenirs is out, a collection of rare material, B-sides and remixes, published in October 2005 in Ireland and now in Germany via Fifa Records.
Even if i have all THE FRANK AND WALTERS albums and a few singles, there are a few songs I didn`t know before and they are all great. Actually there is no song on there, that I don`t like.
A few B-sides are wonderful and its good to have them alltogether, f.e. “Pathways“, “An elegant chaos“ or “Restraint“. Besides, there are some remixes of older songs, like “New York“, “Paradise“ and “Take me through this life“; Some of them are even better then the original.
Everyone who don`t want to buy all there singles should buy this album, it`s worth it. Another reason to buy it is for example the cover- version of „“Cemetry gates“ by THE SMITHS, which is only available on the rare collection “The Smiths is dead“; A great version, I think. The double album Souvenirs also features videos of their hits “After All“ and “Indian Ocean“, a rare MY BLOODY VALENTINE remix of “Take Me Through This Life“ and a version of “Paradise“.
With purchase of the CD you get a special code which makes it possible to download an exclusive third CD! Everyone should own this CD with more than 26 songs. I, at least, had a few hours of pleasure, while listening to this excellent collection.
